Based on Glenn Stout’s novel Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World, the movie is set to be directed by Joachim Rønning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) and will tell the true story of Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle, who became the first woman to swim across the English Channel in 1926. Ridley will play Trudy Ederle, a role that originally went to Lily James back in 2015 when the movie was being produced by Paramount Pictures, but it ended up in Disney’s hands.
